Commonly Asked Questions

  • How do we use your money?
We invest 98% of all cash and non-cash donations into programs and services that feed our neighbors. This includes collecting and distributing food donations to front-line organizations like food banks, food pantries, and soup kitchens. And, only 0.3% of our total budget covers overhead and administrative costs.
Feeding America has been recognized by Charity Navigator, Candid, and Forbes for our commitment to transparency, accountability, and financial responsibility.
  • How do we support local food banks?
Donations to Feeding America fund a national network of hunger-relief charities. We support our member food banks and meal programs with food and funds to feed their communities. Last year, we granted $380 million to local programs and provided over 6 billion meals.
  • How does $1 feed 10 people?
Every dollar donated to Feeding America allows us to secure and distribute at least 12 pounds of food (10 average-sized meals). We rescue food from manufacturers, retailers, and growers on behalf of local food banks. Your donations help us cover costs for securing and transporting that food and paying the staff who makes it all possible.
  • How do we distribute food?
Feeding America secures food donations from the food and grocery industry, growers, and government agencies. Then our staff matches rescued food with food banks that need it most. Finally, we ensure the food and groceries are safely transported and stored at member food banks that directly feed our neighbors.
